Finance Manager - Job Description

Finance Manager

Waterloo Region, Ontario

The Finance Manager will be the Canadian lead for the accounting department and ensure the timely and accurate analysis and reporting of financial information. As a strategic leader, they will be relied upon to collaborate with the leadership team for financial reporting, forecasting, strategy development, and compliance. This position will report to the Controller and be responsible for managing and leading the accounting team in Canada.

As the Finance Manager, you will:

  • Provide the necessary planning, organization, direction, coordination, control and management of accounting and finance for Canadian operations, including the general ledger, cost accounting, reporting, payroll, invoicing, payables, collection of accounts receivables, HST, US sales tax and monthly financial statements.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor the financial records and transactions of the organization while assuring compliance with applicable provincial and federal taxes, regulations, rules, laws, and requirements.
  • Oversee the payroll process, and ensure any special payments (e.g. sales commissions) are paid in a timely manner.
  • Prepare, audit, and analyze financial statements including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other management reports as requested.
  • Develop the annual budget with guidance and input from the department, organization, and leadership team.
  • Complete the preparation of all information needed for the annual financial audit.
  • Collaborate with the department leadership team to establish finance and accounting policies for Canadian operations.
  • Lead a team of 3 direct reports and conduct regular coaching and feedback meetings

Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive experience as a finance manager or accounting manager with demonstrated experience leading department staff.
  • Experience working in an accounting/finance position in a manufacturing environment, an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ERP software and strong Excel abilities.
  • Prior experience with payroll software (Easypay preferably) and accounting software, a strong asset.
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian accounting practices, concepts, procedures, and financial principles.
  • Degree or Diploma in accounting, business, or related field preferred.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, an asset.
