Homemaker - Job Description

Home Help Program

The Home Help Program provides light housekeeping, shopping, laundry and assistance with meal preparation to eligible clients to encourage their independence and enable them to remain in their homes safely and with dignity.

Clients of the service are frail seniors and adults with disabilities living in the Wellington County.

The Seniors' Community Coordinator screens Homemakers, through reference and criminal history checks for which the applicant pays, and provides an orientation to new Homemakers. The Homemaker is then matched with eligible clients and arranges to come on a set day and time, allowing clients to receive the benefit of regularly scheduled appointments and companionship.

Home Help is a brokered program. Homemakers are self-employed and aren't bonded by Guelph Independent Living.

The client pays the fee for services directly to the Homemaker. There is a set pay of $35 per 2-hour booking minimum. Grocery shopping and heavy cleaning can be requested at an additional fee set by the agency.

This position is part-time with flexible hours.

Homemakers must have access to a reliable vehicle. Successful applicants must provide a criminal reference check before they can be matched with a client.

Guelph Independent Living is an equal opportunity employer which values diversity in the workplace. We are therefore happy to accomodate any indivicual needs in all employment activities, in keeping with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Please let us know if you require any accommodations to ensure you can participate fully and equally during the recruitment and selection process. Some examples may include:

  • Alternate formats for communication material
  • Physical adjustments (eg. entryways, furnishings, workstations, keyboard)
  • Technical aids/assistive devices
  • Interview scheduling to accommodate a religious holiday
